What I Thought
This was a fabulous sequel. This novel was very good structurally and I honestly thought it was very well thought out. Everything flowed very well, the characters developed more, and the ending of the book left me wanting more.

The plot was very good, usually I don't mention the plot to much because it never stands out in a positive or negative way. But this book did a very good job in pulling together things from the very beginning of the book, and from parts of the last book (Wither by Lauren Destefano). There was one part at the beginning of the book that I was like "What the heck? How did that happen?" And then at the end of the book I was like "Ohhh, that's how. I get it now." And I really like it when books do that.



Rhine as a character developed more in my opinion. We defiantly saw more of her through memories that she shared with her brother, how weak she truly is. Although she puts on the appearance of strength, I think that she is still just a scared little girl. And truthfully that is what she is. Sure in her world she would be considered an elder, but in our society she is still developing mentally, and I think that is an important component that I think I forgot when reading this because she is so much older than some of the other characters, and the only characters older than her are the first generations.

We also see more of Rhine's brother, Rowan. Which is one of my favorite things about this book, I want to know about the other half of Rhine. The actual toughness behind her. There are so many things about Rhine's past life that we don't know, and he is one of them.

Gabriel, we see more of also. We see how much he cares for Rhine, and how far he would actually go to save someone he cares about. How he helps someone who is need, that cannot help themselves.



This was a fantastic book, but sometimes things did move a little slow at parts, and it felt like there were parts in there that didn't absolutely have to be in there, that felt like they were in there just as fillers, and they probably were. I agree with having fillers in books, but these were really long and it made me want to fall asleep, but I was almost done and I felt that need to continue, to finish. And I have to admit it was worth it.


I would defiantly read this book again, and recommend it to almost anyone I come across. So I am saying that this is about a 4.5 type of book. It has a good plot, good dynamic characters, and leaves you wanting more. The only downside is that the book moves slow at one or two parts for an extended period of time.

My Thoughts-

My first reaction while reading this was is the author trying to get the reader to like Cole? Because I fell as hard as you can for a fictional character (except Mr. Darcy) in this book. I kind of liked him in the first novel, but this one was like, he actually has a heart? Oh yes, I can see it now, and God is it amazing. I know it isn't probably the best thing to say about the bad guy, but come on. After doing what he does for Nikki this novel, how can you not say something nice about him.

The character evolution of everyone is pretty much a stand still except for Cole and Nikki. You see how Nikki can be when she is put under pressure and when she is desperate for something. You also see how strong she is, I mean if my boyfriend were taken into the Everneath I wouldn't be able to eat, sleep, or function, for like a few months minimum. But she keeps going to find a way into the Everneath to save him, even when she almost looses hope.

Now Cole, as I said, I really liked him in this book, and I am defiantly Team Cole, but his ugly side does show it's head every once and a while. He manipulates and omits the truth. On the other hand he does come along with Nikki on her suicide mission to save the one she loves, when (I believe) he truly loves her.

I do love the ending of this book. I tend to really like books with a plot twist ending. The ones you know how ends but then it's like NOPE. Just kidding. And that is how this one ends, but if you pay attention to the signs, you may be able to guess what it is. (But don't just go to the last page of the book and read it.)

I  think this book is a book defiantly worth your time to read. If you haven't read the first one, you should check it out from you library as soon as you can. The recreation of the Greek Underworld adds some new myth to reality. Or some reality to myth. So I am giving this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I would read this book again in a heartbeat and would recommend to any of my friends.

New Week, New Book.

So this is my new Monday series called New Week, New Book. This is to show you what I am reading and for me to find out what you guys are reading too. I love to find new books so hopefully you share with me your fantastic finds and books that I might want to read and review.


My book this week is  Wake Unto Me by Lisa Cach. What pulled me into this book was the back
cover. It is so mysterious and full of promise that I just had to pull it off the shelf and buy it.

That seemed to pull me in. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that it is paranormal romance, or if it is also because I recently read Alexandra Monir's Timekeeper series and this seems incredibly like it.

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald 
This book was first published in 1925 when Fitzgerald was living in France with his wife Zelda.

Summery
This novel takes place in the summer of 1922. Starting from the early summer and ending in late summer/ early fall.

So, Jay Gatsby is the rich man that lives next door to Nick Carraway (a poor bonds salesman). He is the man who throws lavish parties at least once a month, the mysterious man that no one really knows about.

Daisy Buchanan is the "golden girl" to Gatsby. The one that got away. She his Nick's distant cousin and is married to Tom Buchanan. She is the girl everyone wanted but nobody could have, until Gatsby.

Once Nick is invited to one of Gatsby's famous parties, a plan is set in motion to reunited Gatsby and Daisy for the first time since 1917 when Gatsby was sent into the front lines during World War One.


My Thoughts
Even though I had to read this for school, I was super excited and couldn't wait. I had been wanting to read this since the movie came out last year and I have refused to watch the movie until I read this book. This book has made me even more excited to see the movie, this is honestly my new favorite american classic.

Now, I did think that some of the characters were a bit off. Daisy for example, I did not know when I was first reading this book if I liked this or not. But after I finished reading this book I decided that it was a good strategy by Fitzgerald. Throughout the book I constantly had to keep my attention going to make sure I didn't miss anything, because sometimes the things that Daisy says or does is just strange.

Another thing I really liked about this book was Fitzgerald's writing style. I could tell that Fitzgerald had taken his time writing, and rewriting, and revising this book. I also liked how he wrapped up all of his ends so much better than most author's do today.

This book overall was very well written and I could not believe how much I loved it. At about a 180 pages, this book has so many plot twist, that you will never see some of these coming. I understand why this book was such a hit when it was first published in 1925.

So I am giving this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Behind locked doors lies another mystery. This time one about the fifth Angel child, Katherine, that died in a horrible accident years ago.

Now without help Tandy must discover what happened to Katherine. Was her accident really and accident? Or was Tandy's darling older sister murdered? And is she next?


My Thoughts-
WARNING!!!! There will be spoilers. If you these bother you do NOT read!!!!

Tandy seemed to have digressed a little in this novel. You see more about her past, but her character doesn't seem to move forwards any. She doesn't change all that much in this novel. If anybody changes in this it is Harry. Here, Harry almost changes into an entirely new person. His passion seems to seep through the pages into the readers mind (I love it). The other character's also seemed to be very, on the page. Jacob seemed to just be there with very little emotion to me. The only times I saw the lack of emotions subside is when 1. Hugo went missing and 2. when he gets angry at Tandy.

Whatever the novel lacked in characters it made up with in the plot. I loved the plot twist that this novel threw at the reader. It seemed just when you were beginning to figure things out. BAM another twist. Some of them I could see coming though just from what I know from characters in previous novels. But others, God, I thought I was going have to throw my book across the room because I was so angry at James. It was like REALLY?!?!?!? Why did you just do that? And other times I just had to sit there and think, "How could this be possible?"

This book over-all I think deserves like a 4 out of 5. I would recommend this book to you and I would read it again, but I am also not itching to dive back into it just yet.  Thanks for reading this! And check back in a few days for my review of the classic The Great Gatsby.

I'm Back!!!!

So as you have probably guessed from the title of this post I am coming back. I have decided to come out from underneath my anti-social media rock and rejoin all the wonderful book bloggers in this world.

I have decided to pick this back up because I miss sharing my thoughts with everyone (even if no one even cares). So I decided to share my thoughts again. That means, you will get my annoying thoughts, feelings, and rants about books that I love.......And the ones I hate.

I will begin to post reviews after Thanksgiving and hopefully will be able to post one or two reviews a week. If there are any recommendations from you for me, please leave them in the comments. I hope to hear from you!

Just to reiterate when I write these post I mostly write them for myself and to share with people who have similar taste. I would rather you not make any nasty post on my blog, if you do not agree, you are more than welcome to go get your book reviews else where. And check back right after Thanksgiving for a new post about James Patterson's new Confessions novel.

The Last (NOT a review)

So if you do not already know I am still in high school. Tonight was our final basketball game of post season play. And I learned a powerful lesson tonight.

As we all sat there waiting for our coach to come in I noticed that there was silence. There was not a word uttered, but as I started to look around I saw all three senors and some other fellow team mates crying. I completely understood this. I was really upset too and was also on the verge of crying. 

Then when our coach came in he took one look around and simply said, "I know this really sucks". Then he started on his post game speech, but this one was more emotional than any before. All he really had to say is don't waste your time in the jersy that you are wearing. And I found out about five minuetes later why. 

That five minuetes later all there seniors disappear around the corner of the locker room and the rest of the team just stood there for a second and looked at each other and we too went around the corner. 

There we found all of them sitting with their heads in their hands and tears wetting their palms. One-by-one all twelve that were still in the locker room went around comferting each other. 

It was then that I realized that you never know when something may end. It maybe your relationship or a chapter in your life, or the last basketball game in your high school career. I learned that you need to always make the best of things and ALWAYS try your hardest.

So as I sit here, riding on the bus back home, I think how I could've tried harder, how I could have worked harder during the season. 

So please take my advice and try your hardest no matter what it is for, even if it is something you don't want to do.

The Guard

My Thoughts-

I will keep this short and sweet just like the book, I promise :)

I thought that the novella was perhaps a little too confusing. The new character that arises left me with that question mark over my head that still won't go away. The character just randomly shows up and starts talking to Aspen and I was like "WHAT!!! WHO IS THIS???" Let's just believe that he will play a significant role, or even a minor one, in the last book of the series The One.

This book was just a little too exciting for me. Which is weird. It was just everything that happened in the middle of The Elite was crammed into less than 80 pages and we also find some new information that keeps you reeling.

I am giving this a 3.5 out of 5 reviewed rating.

Love-A-Thon Challege # 4

Okay seeing as I will not be with in service for the next challenge I will post it a little bit early (by a hour and a half :P )

Challenge #4-
This challenge is a mash-up. Meaning that I have to combine my real life passion and hobbies with the books I love to read.

For this I would say that sports and music would go very closely go hand in hand with my passions. I'm always trying to learn some new instrument (for those who may not know I already know how to play three and I am attempting to learn the guitar), or attempting to make a 3-pointer, a new trick with a soccer ball, or getting my best time in a 5k. So having these two very different passions are kind of tricky to come up with an idea for.

I think that if I could combine these with books, it would defiantly to be to spend a day with some authors who have written about these subjects. Meg Cabot would be one of them because in her series 1-800-Where-Are-You, or now known as Vanished, the main character is very music oriented. She knows how to play the flute, which is one of my instruments, by ear. Another would be the author of Tangerine and the author of Tears of a Tiger, these authors would be perfect because they are writing about two of my favorite sports (soccer and basketball respectively).

Love-A-Thon

So I traded interviews with Amber G.for this years Love-A-Thon. Since this year is my first year participating in this I was paired with someone who is experienced at blogging. So here is my interview.

(Me)- Tell us a bit about yourself. What country are you from?(I only ask because of the way you spell favorite)

(AG)-  I'm 21 years old and am currently working as an editor for a translation company. I live in England, hence my spelling! I don't have many hobbies aside from reading and blogging, but I do watch a lot of TV shows. If you're looking for recommendations, then I'll always be happy to help! And I will more than likely recommend Spartacus because it's my favourite show ever. I have a lot of siblings, and a lot of pets, so my house is extremely crowded and also very loud when everyone is home. Because of this, I've learnt to tune everything out and I could probably carry on reading comfortably even if your marching band was in the room!

(Me)- How long have you been blogging? And what has your favorite blogging experience so far?

(AG)- I started blogging in September 2010, so I've been at it for three and a half years! Time has really flown by, but at the same time it feels like I've been doing this forever. I'm not sure if I have a single favourite blogging experience. I remember taking part in my first read-a-thon and loving it, and starting Recaptains will always be something that I'm proud of!

(Me)- If you could be anything in the world what would it be? (Except a blogger that is).

(AG)- Anything at all? A billionaire philanthropist with my own private island. But perhaps you mean something more realistic. I would love to be an editor for a publishing house, preferably working with young adult fiction. That's my dream job, although I would also love to be a movie critic or some sort of travel journalist. I would love to do something regarding ancient history, which is a passion of mine. I'm considering going to university to study either ancient history or anthropology.

(Me)- Have you ever reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy? If so how was the process of getting it?

(AG)- I have. I received my first ARC in early 2011, and since then my relationship with publicists has been slowly building. The process was, admittedly, rather scary at first. I had been hearing a lot about ARCs after joining the blogosphere, but I hadn't requested any since I didn't feel as though my blog had enough reach. As someone who suffers from social anxiety, I didn't feel comfortable reaching out to publicists and asking for free things, even if I would be giving these free books publicity in return. I didn't feel like I was qualified. And then a publicist got in contact with me, and asked if I wanted to be part of a blog tour and I accepted. After that I felt a lot more comfortable when requesting, and discovering Netgalley certainly helped!

(Me)-  What are your favorite books? Why?

(AG)- This is a tough one! The list is so long. Harry Potter will, of course, always be my go-to series for this kind of question. I grew up with Harry and his friends, and I will always love them. Other favourite books of mine include The Saga of Darren Shan (vampire books, but GREAT vampire books), Jurassic Park, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson, Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. But, like I said, the list is huge and this is just a sample.

(Me)- Finally, any advice for beginning bloggers out there?

(AG)- My biggest piece of advice is to get to know your fellow bloggers! I kept to myself a lot in the first month or so of blogging, and that was a silly decision. Get onto Twitter and start interacting, because the blogging community is fantastic and friendly and welcoming. You can't go wrong! I've made so many friends in the past three years, and I'm always happy to make more. I think that making friends is a lot more important than improving your stats, because in the long run friends are what matter most. They make you happier than statistics ever will.

There you go. This was an amazing experience for me and I could not believe how much we had in common. I encourage any blogger who wishes to to have fun and get to know other bloggers to participate in this next year.

Allegiant

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Summery-

Everyone knows the truth. Everyone now knows that there is a world outside the city walls. Everyone knows that whatever is beyond those walls has to do with a person who possibly live over a hundred years ago. A woman with the name of Edith Prior.
Locked away in Erudite headquarters Tris (Beatrice) Prior is about to be injected with the truth serum, in hope that she will reveal everything she knows. However, Tris is immune to the truth serum given to her and chooses to reveal nothing and even lie to protect her friends.

Now that she is free, Tris and her boyfriend Tobias (Four), begin to hatch a plan to escape the Erudite headquarters for the unseen world. Just as this plan begins to form an un-expectant group makes their entry.  The Allegiant. A group fighting against disbanding factions that has been put into place by their new ruler Evelyn Eaton.

Even more eager to escape, Tris, Tobias, Uriah, and Christina, hatch a plan that involves breaking Caleb Prior out of jail, escaping functionless guards, and surviving beyond the wall.
What is out there? Are there people like themselves, looking to escape the society that is being formed? Or is there a entire different group of people, just waiting? And the most important question.....

Who will live?

 

 

My Thoughts-

 

This book was, interesting, I found it a little hard to start. But that may have been because I haven't read any of the others since August, so my memory was slightly hazy.

 

I am going to attempt not to give away too much of the book for those who have not read it yet, but beware there may be things you do not wish to know yet.

 

The beginning of the book was confusing at first, then I caught up and became un-confused. The love story is as strong as ever, but it has a few bumps at the beginning. After walking into Erudite headquarters willing Tobias seems less than happy with Tris. Hell, I wouldn't have been surprised if he was downright pissed and didn't speak to her for a month.

 

After all of these romantic hiccups are out of the way, the Allegiant makes their entrance. Now I know that they believe that what they are doing is right. But do they really think they could reclaim the sitting and be any better than Jeanine Matthews, or even Evelyn?

 

OK, if you have NOT read the book I would encourage you to stop reading right about now, unless you reallyyyyyyyyy want to know. 

 

Outside the walls of the city there lies a secret compound issued by the government. (Yes, the United States government.) Structured for the city to help make the Genetically Pure (G.P.) from the Genetically Damaged (G.D.) and there are people inside the compound that do not agree with that.

 

Okay, let me just say, there should be no such thing as a "perfect" person or a "healed" person in the terms of genetics. Everyone is different and that is the way it should be.

 

I think that was all of my issues. But let me just say, this was one of the saddest books I have ever read in my entire life. I never thought that I could cry so much over a death of a character. But then again I cried in Les Mis (the entire movie from the point when Fauntine died to the very end).

 

Veronica Roth did an amazing job in making sure her audiences were appeased with the book and where the story went. I would wish to give her a high five for the that. At school it is the only thing that I hear people talking about.

 

Overall I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
